- Abstract
This study analyzes one of Disney's most popular animations, Mulan. The film is an adaptation based on a Chinese poem, usually known as The Ballad of Mulan. This is the first time Disney has done a movie based on Chinese culture. This study looks at how Disney misrepresents the Chinese culture in Mulan. It employs ideological analysis to examine critically the ideological and hegemonic message put forth by Disney 'film, Mulan. The study also argues that the filmmakers robbed the original story of its soul, ignored the Chinese culture, and imposed the American cultural beliefs and values on the story.
