- Abstract
The article describes the case of a 59 year old man with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who was admitted for cardiac catheterisation. The man had a rise in left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) gradient as seen in the echocardiographic test. The medical condition characteristics include a dynamic LVOT obstruction, abrupt increase in peak-systolic LVOT gradient and decrease in aortic pulse pressure after an extrasystolic beat. The obstruction occurs when the ejection orifice is narrowed by increased force of left ventricular contraction.
