- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the spatial variability in precipitation within the Hilton Experimental Site in Shropshire, England from 1982 to 2006. Results of the study revealed a notable difference between two adjacent rain gauges, with a mean difference of 3.3% of the total. Also, intra-site variability was found to be influenced mainly by spatial variations in wind turbulence. While basal sections had 2.5-7.9% more precipitation, upper gauges received less due to turbulence caused by increased exposure on the top of the slope resulting to precipitation being carried over the gauge orifice.
