- Abstract
The article offers information about the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF is a polypeptide that plays an important role in the survival, differentiation and outgrowth of neurons during development as well as influencing synaptic function and synaptic plasticity in adulthood. It is the most widely distributed neurotrophin in the central nervous system and is regarded as a critically important protein in psychiatric illness.
