- Abstract
Twelve double-J ureteral stents were placed in seven patients with symptomatic hydronephrosis of pregnancy. Seven of the stents were passed under sonographic guidance; five were placed cystoscopically and their position immediately confirmed by sonography. Sonography confirmed the presence of the stent in the renal pelvis in 10 of 12 stents (84%), and showed the absence of a stent in the renal pelvis in two patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Renal sonography is a simple and accurate method to assess the placement of a ureteral stent during pregnancy without exposing the fetus to potentially damaging radiation.
