- Title
Chemical oceanography: The ocean's pressure cooker.
- Authors
Beaupré, Steven R.
- Abstract
The author discusses the mechanisms associated with destruction of oldest organic molecules found in seawater. He states that majority of organic molecules in seawater are small and flow with the water rather than sinking, and mentions that although the molecules are reported to be old they are resistant to being mineralized. It notes that according to findings of a study by J. A. Hawkes the molecules are removed by high temperature and pressure of deep-sea hydrothermal vents.
