- Abstract
This article discusses a rare condition called melanoma-associated retinopathy (MAR), which occurs in patients with cutaneous melanoma. MAR is difficult to diagnose due to non-specific findings on a fundus exam, but it can be identified through a history of melanoma, symptoms of night blindness, visual field loss, and specific findings on an electroretinogram (ERG). The article presents a case study of a 47-year-old woman with a history of skin melanoma who experienced sudden vision loss and was diagnosed with MAR. The patient received treatment with intravitreal dexamethasone implant, which resulted in substantial recovery of vision and other symptoms. The article concludes that MAR can occur concurrently with another condition called Multiple Evanescent White Dot Syndrome (MEWDS), and that intravitreal dexamethasone implant can be an effective treatment for MAR.
