Sex redefined.
- Authors
Ainsworth, Claire
- Abstract
The article focuses on intersex conditions, also known as differences or disorders of sex development (DSD). Topics discussed include genetic discoveries that have pointed to a complex process of sex determination, the process of sex development in a human embryo, and conditions that meet the medical definition of DSD. The social impact of studies of DSD that have shown that sex is no simple dichotomy is explored as well as the social pressure challenging people born with DSD.
