- Abstract
Pregnancy is a biologically natural period, in which women experience significant physical and hormonal changes and reformulation of their social role. Many typical circumstances of the puerperium can lead women to feel anguished and anxious, making them more susceptible to the risk of developing maternal sadness, postpartum melancholia, or baby blues, which can lead to more severe depressive conditions, implying a decrease in self-care and childcare. The objective of this study was to verify how nursing care occurs in the early diagnosis of postpartum depression. This is an exploratory, descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, which used a field investigation. Data were collected during the months of February and March 2021, through an individual semi-structured interview. The research participants were professional nurses from basic health units in the municipality of Iguatu. The data were analyzed using Bardin's content analysis. The study was approved with the following CAAE: 36217420.4.0000.5055. The results showed that the interviewees showed understanding about the subject, emphasizing the importance of early detection and the identification of warning signs. However, it was found that there is a lack of discussion in the academic environment about the theme and little learning about postpartum depression was perceived during the years of graduation of the interviewees. Furthermore, it is concluded that the creation of a bond between nurse and patient is a fundamental part in the tracking of risk factors, signs and symptoms for the early detection and treatment of postpartum depression.
