- Abstract
The article analyzes the economic and environmental viability of artisanal oyster farming in Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, Cuba. It highlights that artisanal oyster farming is an economically viable alternative with a higher average yield compared to extractive fishing. The importance of including the valuation of environmental goods and services in the economic analysis of this type of activity is mentioned. Additionally, information is provided on the collection and processing of data related to oyster production in Cuba, as well as the costs and benefits of oyster farming. It is concluded that artisanal oyster farming with an ecosystem approach is a more sustainable alternative to wild resource fishing.
