- Abstract
The SAGIT tracking system was used on a sample of three senior-category couples of sport dancers so as to analyse the loading on male and female dancers practicing Latin-American (LA) dances. We also wanted to identify any differences in the male and female dancers' loading during various LA dances. The results showed that in LA dances male and female dancers must be tracked separately since the trajectory and velocity of movement of the two was different. In terms of the studied dimensions, obvious differences were also identified among the different dances. Samba and passodoble were found to be more dynamic dances as male and female dancers travel in the dancing direction following a circular line, whereas cha cha cha, rumba and jive were extremely stationary, non-progressive dances performed on a specific area of the dance floor. The highest values of average velocity and trajectory by male and female dancers were observed in samba and passodoble, followed by cha-cha-cha and jive, whereas rumba turned out to be an extremely stationary dance. The differences between the individual dance couples in terms of average velocity were minimum, thus pointing to specificities of the choreography. Some minimum differences were observed within individual couples in terms of trajectory and velocity, although they differed with dances.
