- Abstract
Although the activation program of dendritic cells (DCs) and their migration to lymphoid organs have been amply documented, the fate of mature DCs remains elusive. The lifespan of activated, antigen-bearing DCs is estimated at a few days but can be modulated by components of the innate and adaptive immune systems. The regulation of DC survival has considerable consequences for induction of the immune response as it determines the availability of antigen for T cells. The turnover and function of DC is controlled by two cell death pathways.
