- Title
Neuroimaging as an approach to advancing research on suicide risk among youth with bipolar disorder.
- Authors
Dimick, Mikaela K.
- Abstract
Self-harm, encompassing both suicide attempts and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), is one of the strongest risk factors for future suicide. Youth with bipolar disorder (BD) are at elevated risk for suicide, with rates of self-harm even higher than other psychiatric disorders including major depressive disorder (MDD). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive neuroimaging method that can advance understanding of the neurobiological underpinnings of suicide risk.
