- Abstract
The article discusses two cases in which internal electronic fetal monitoring consistently and without explanation failed during labor. This was post-partum found to be due to ichthyosis, a fetal skin disease. The two cases demonstrate a cause of inadequate internal cardiotocography. Malfunction or detachment of the fetal scalp electrode is the cause.
