- Title
Is There a Right to Own a Gun?
- Authors
Huemer, Michael
- Abstract
The article discusses the right to own a gun in the U.S. Gun control supporters often assume that the acceptability of gun control laws turns on whether it increases or decreases crime rates. The impression that such laws violate rights where decrease of crime rates are seldom entertained nor the interests of gun owners in keeping and using guns typically given great weight. The author contends that individuals have a prima facie right to own firearms which is weighty and protects significant interests and it is not overridden by utilitarian considerations.
