- Abstract
Crop plants are constantly in contact with microorganisms and animals that, if not managed accordingly, can threaten regional food security and cause serious economic losses. Thus, accessing quick and precise diagnosis of the causal agent is crucial for establishing proper and effective control measures. Therefore, the Plant Pathology Clinic was created at UFSC in 2002. Up to now, the Plant Pathology Clinic received 404 samples for analysis from Santa Catarina, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso states. These samples were grouped in others (substrates, animal food, water and etc; 147 samples), ornamental plants (106), vegetables (83), fruit plants (6) and grains (7) and mostly were infected by fungi. Additionally, the work carried out in the Plant Pathology Clinic has contributed for training professionally in the phytopathology field and for creating and strengthening bonds between the academy and the productive sector.
