- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of households' food security in the municipality of Xochiapulco Puebla. The main variables considered in the study were the availability and food sufficiency, physical and economic access to food, and fairness and lack of access to food. The study was conducted using a simple random sampling, at 95% confidence using as unit of analysis the rural household. The results show that 54% of households do not have affordable access to food and that 64% have accessed through family farming, with the production of maize, beans and vegetables. Even though household have a deficit of 4 months a year, covering just a food sufficiency of 1979 kcal, which is not enough compared to the optimum consumption of 2,415 kcal.
