- Abstract
The author, a sociologist who was part of the emergence of Bourdieusian global field studies in the United States, takes the opportunity of this issue of Actes de la recherche en sciences sociales to engage in an exercise of reflection and synthesis. He begins by briefly sketching the logics of importation of the field concept by North American sociologists for studying extranational relations and evokes his own entry into the post-national analysis of fields. The article then shows how the essays in this special issue contribute to Bourdieusian field studies. It concludes by answering one of the core questions raised in the issue's introduction: what sorts of theoretical innovations, guides or redirections does Bourdieusian global field studies offer sociological theory and research on fields, whether extra-national, intra-national, or national ?
