- Abstract
The Journal of Forensic Sciences has published a special section on Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), which explores the various scientific methods used to identify human remains in different contexts. The section covers topics from disciplines such as Anthropology, Criminalistics, and Odontology. The articles discuss techniques such as Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy, SNP assays, epigenetic age prediction, chest radiographs, stable isotope analysis, postmortem fingerprinting, and data management for large sets of commingled remains. The goal of this special section is to improve victim identification and provide closure to families and communities. The authors emphasize the importance of collaboration and sharing ideas across disciplines to enhance the efficiency of DVI efforts.
