- Abstract
This article explores the relationship between skin barrier integrity and type 2 inflammatory diseases. The study found that individuals with allergic rhinitis, food allergy, and eczema had higher levels of transepidermal water loss (TEWL), indicating compromised skin barrier integrity. The study also identified factors such as gender, testicular volume, armpit hair growth, and medical diagnoses that influenced skin barrier function. However, the model only captured a small percentage of the variation in TEWL. The study suggests an association between T2 inflammatory diseases and epithelial barrier disruption, but further research is needed to determine the diagnostic and predictive utility of TEWL in allergic diseases.
