- Abstract
An essay is presented which examine film critic Pauline Kael's work as a form of Cold War democratic discourse influenced by the version of love described by philosopher Plato in his work "The Symposium." Particular attention is given to the influence of Kael's Jewishness and Americanism. Other topics covered include corporeality in Kael's writing, her engagement with eroticism, and the cultural impact of cinema.
