- Title
What Caused Airline Deregulation: Economists or Economics?
- Authors
MCDONNELL, GARY
- Abstract
The article argues that the ideas of economists and interest-group policies were both responsible for deregulation of U.S. interstate air-passenger service, and asserts that both economists and economics caused airline deregulation. Topics discussed include agency-client model of political scientist and economist Barry Weingast, protectionist policies generating disequilibrium, and political entrepreneurship. Also mentioned are the cost of changing legislation and willingness to pay.
