- Abstract
A brief literary criticism of the play "The Rivals" by Richard Brinsley Sheridan is presented. The authors discuss a reference to a book titled "The Reward of Constancy" in the play and argue that a theory by literary scholar George Nettleton is incorrect. The authors propose that the play refers to the book "Belinda; or, Happiness the Reward of Constancy, Mannifested in a Series of the Most Interesting and Surprising Events Ever Yet Made Publick."
