- Title
THE WAY OF A PAPERMAKER WITH A POET: JOSHUA GILPIN, WILLIAM BLAKE, AND THE ARTS IN 1796: A POSTSCRIPT.
- Authors
Bentley Jr., G. E.
- Abstract
The article reports on the speculation that "Blake the Engraver," whom Joshua Gilpin saw on April 14, 1796 is "very likely" to be "William Blake the poet and painter" is not true, though he is William Blake the engraver. The author's friend John Bidwell has generously shared with the author his discovery in March 1986 of a letter with the uncatalogued Gilpin Papers in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania from the distinguished book-illustrator Richard Corbould. The statements made in the reference are given in the article.
