- Abstract
A indústria de rações está constantemente em busca de novos ingredientes que possam substituir total ou parcialmente os insumos normalmente utilizados. A radícula de malte é um coproduto da indústria de malte que tem chamado atenção quanto a sua composição bromatológica, devido à alta concentração de proteína e energia, além de minerais e compostos fenólicos. O pH fecal é utilizado como um indicativo de saúde digestiva ao se relacionar com o trato gastrointestinal, o que pode interferir na quebra de carboidratos e, consequentemente, alterar a produção de ácidos graxos de cadeia curta (AGCC). O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as implicações da substituição do farelo de trigo em diferentes níveis por radícula de malte na alimentação de equinos sobre o pH e concentrações de AGCC (acético, propiônico e butírico) e ácido lático nas fezes. Foram utilizados 8 pôneis, machos, castrados, da raça Mini-Horse, com peso corporal (PC) médio de 146 ± 16 kg e idade média de 10 anos. A dieta fornecida foi calculada de acordo com a exigência nutricional diária de 1,75% do PC em matéria seca, sendo 1% de volumoso feno de Tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.), e 0,75% de concentrado, divididos em duas refeições, com água e sal ad libitum. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o quadrado latino duplo 4×4, sendo um animal por unidade experimental. Os pôneis foram divididos em quatro grupos: T0, dieta controle, sem substituição; T1, substituição de 33%; T2, substituição de 66%; T3, substituição de 100%. Em cada período experimental foram respeitados 15 dias de adaptação à dieta, com quantidade de ração fornecida gradativamente e realizada a coleta total de fezes (CTF) por 5 dias consecutivos a partir do 16° dia. Os períodos foram intercalados por 15 dias de washout. Para as análises, as amostras de fezes foram coletadas no 5° dia de CTF e pesadas em balança de precisão semi-analítica. Para a análise do pH, as amostras foram diluídas e homogeneizadas. Na sequência, foi imerso o eletrodo do pHmetro para leitura do pH. Para a análise de AGCC, as amostras foram submetidas à técnica de cromatografia gasosa. Para a análise de ácido lático, 2g de fezes foram armazenadas em tubo Vacutainer BD® sem anticoagulante e congeladas a -20 °C, nas quais utilizou-se o método de determinação de ácido por espectrofotométrico para fluídos biológicos. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey, ao nível de significância de 5%, através do PROC MIXED do Statistical Analyses System (SAS, versão 9.0). Não houve diferenças significativas, tanto no pH, apresentando média de 6,27, quanto nas concentrações de AGCC, com média de 7,17, e de ácido lático, com média de 5,11. A utilização de radícula de malte como um substituto do farelo de trigo, em até 100%, não provoca alterações no pH e nas concentrações de AGCC e ácido lático fecais.
