- Abstract
The article presents a study that examines the essentiality of conditioning in seed germination of some orobanche species from Israel. It reveals the various methods used in the study including the surface sterilization using 70% ethanol, seed conditioning in two layers of filter paper discs, seed germination in petri dishes, and flash-stimulation at various interval. It found out that conditioning does not affect stimulant receptivity of the seeds and suggests that conditioning should include a parasite-specific early phase and a non-specific later phase. It further discusses the timing of the seed response, the effect of duration on seed germination, and the dose response of seeds to germination stimulant (GR24) stimulation.
