- Abstract
Appendiceal Mucocele is the term used to describe the accumulation of intraluminal mucus within the appendix, which can result from benign or neoplastic etiologies. It is a rare condition, predominantly affecting women after the age of 50. Mucinous neoplasms of the appendix can be characterized into three distinct groups: True pre-malignant lesions, Tumors of uncertain malignant potential, and Malignant lesions. Clinically, patients present with non-specific symptoms and may even be asymptomatic, which leads to a low preoperative diagnostic suspicion, often resulting in unsatisfactory surgical techniques, necessitating urgent intervention changes. Therefore, a literature review was conducted to provide insights into this condition, enabling more surgical professionals to access this content and, thus, offer the best possible treatment to patients.
