- Abstract
Smoking is widely recognized as one of the most significant threats to public health, with its consequences resulting in various medical complications, among which lung diseases stand out. This paper aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying tobacco-induced lung damage. Through a systematic literature review, we explore the main toxic compounds in tobacco smoke and the cellular signaling pathways they affect. The findings showcase a profound interrelation between tobacco exposure, oxidative stress, inflammation, and the subsequent pulmonary degeneration. By understanding these mechanisms, a promising path opens for new therapeutic and preventive interventions.
