- Abstract
Using the synthetic wastewater of high C/N ratio (10), and activated sludge from a domestic wastewater treatment plant, the start-up of aerobic denitrification sequencing batch reactor (SBR) was studied with the anoxic/oxic alternate operation mode and the high aeration rate. The results indicated that the obvious aerobic denitrification phenomenon was observed after the reactor was operated for 45 d, and the total nitrogen removal efficiency of the process reached a stable condition when the reactor was cultured for another 25 d. When the activated sludge loading rate was 0.11 kg COD/(kg MLSS · d), the removal efficiencies of COD, total nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen were (94.97%±0.53%), (90.37%±5.89%) and (99.18%± 0.34%) respectively. The activated sludge from domestic wastewater treatment plant can be utilized as the seeding sludge for the start-up of aerobic denitrification biological nitrogen removal process, moreover, the start-up of the process can be accelerated with the anoxic/oxic alternate operation mode and the high aeration rate.
