- Abstract
Sodium calcium borate glass derived hydroxyapatite (G-HAP) scaffolds were prepared by dipping with polyurethane foam and followed by immersion in 0·1 M K2HPO4 solution for several days for the immobilization of lead ions in aqueous solutions. The effects of glass and ethyl-cellulose (EC) contents on the porosity and compressive strength of the scaffolds were studied. The effects of different initial pH values and ion concentrations on the lead removal performance were investigated. The mechanism of G-HAP scaffolds in immobilizing Pb2+ ions from aqueous solutions was investigated by the x-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectrometry. The results showed that G-HAP scaffolds could immobilize lead ions in solution effectively.
