- Abstract
To improve power system stability, more and more high-speed controllers are being introduced into modern bulk power systems. The eigenvalue control is a new means to stabilize a power system by observing the elgenvalues and varying the operating point of machines and controller parameters. It utilizes the linear control theory and is very effective for improving the dynamic and the midterm stability. The eigenvalue control can be applied in the steady state or quasi-steady state operating conditions without any major disturbance. It maintains the real part of the dominant eigenvalue at a minimum value and the power system is well damped against small external variations.
