- Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of present study is to critically evaluate the anterior and overall ratio of north Indian population and compare it with Bolton ratio. Also establish normative data of mesiodistal dimensions of permanent dentition in north Indian population. Materials and Methods: The original study was performed on randomly selected study models of 16-25 years old 300 subjects (115 males and 185 females). All study models were measured at the largest mesiodistal dimension using a digital caliper accurate to 0.01 mm. Individual width of all teeth from molar to molar measured and normative data was formed. The anterior and overall ratios were calculated for males and females and comparison was done with Bolton's ratio. Results: Males teeth were larger in size than females. Amongst all teeth Lateral incisor showed most variations. Comparison of anterior or overall ratios for both genders showed males had slightly higher overall ratio than females but statically insignificant. Comparison of Bolton's ratio and our sample ratio of north Indian population showed no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Bolton's values can be used in north Indian population irrespective of gender.
