- Abstract
The article discusses the impact on U.S. public health of U.S. presidential elections, examining whether there is an increased number of fatal car crashes on election day. Election days are analyzed from Jimmy Carter in 1976 to George W. Bush in 2004, the article states. Topics include car crashes during polling hours, death counts on election days and control days, and data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System. Also discussed is U.S. reliance on motor vehicle travel and young adults driving in a southern state.
