- Abstract
The article discusses the pros and cons of clinical protocols. It references the study "Organizational Characteristics, Outcomes and Resource Use in 78 Brazilian Intensive Care Units: The ORCHESTRA Study" by M. Soares et al. published within the issue. The study is said to have found that clinical protocols and surgical checklists improve patient outcome. It is noted that protocols may help intensive care units (ICUs) that perform poorly, but not high-performing ICUs.
