- Abstract
Between the years 1793-1800, there was an uninterrupted defensive military mobilization in the Arica district by the Franco-Spanish war of 1793-1795 and the Anglo-Spanish war of 1786-1802. In the context of the southern Peru, the government of the Intendancy or Arequipa concentrated its efforts in preventing a possible invasion of the city and port of Arica. For the fulfilment of this purpose, during this period a defensive plan prepared by the government of Arequipa was executed in 1789, a plan which was created preventively in response to the context of the Anglo-French dispute over the Dutch internal political conflict in 1787. As there is no research on this subject, this article is the first colonial historiographic contribution for this period of the Southern Peruvian region from the perspective of military history.
