- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated failure rates in patients who received second-line therapy and factors associated with failure and death. The multicohort study of 632 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients greater than 14 years old African and Asian patients who received second-line therapy for more than 6 months in antiretroviral therapy (ART) programs. The authors found that there was an association between treatment failure and several factors such as low CD4 cell counts and use of suboptimal second-line regimens.
