ABSTRACT SESSION 7: TACHYCARDIA II: IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERTER-DEFIBRILLATOR: IMPLANTATION TECHNIQUES AND COMPLICATIONS.
- Abstract
This article focuses on recent medical investigations related to the implantation techniques and complications associated with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator. Pectoral implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) placement is now routinely possible because of downsized pulse generators. However, controversy exists regarding the preferred surgical approach. Accordingly, a comparison between subcutaneous and submuscular complications rates was performed in 993 patients undergoing initial ICD placement with the Medtronic Jewel at 92 centers in the study "Complications Associated With Subcutaneous and Submuscular Pectoral Cardioverter Defibrillator Placement."
