- Abstract
The article focuses on the development of the surveillance initiative and detection of the epidemic pneumococcal and haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease in developing countries. It states that the initiative aimed to expand sites performing surveillance and to promote the quality and comparability of information collected. It mentions that the efforts were made through the collaboration of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's GAVI Alliance's Pneumococcal Vaccines Accelerated Development and Introduction Plan (PneumoADP) with the World Health Organization. It highlights the effects of the effort including the improvement of surveillance quality in poor countries, capacity management, and the strengthened partnership between the government and the private institutions.
