- Title
Canada's health care system and the sustainability paradox.
- Authors
Dhalla, Irfan
- Abstract
The article focuses on the sustainability of the health care system in Canada. It mentions an assumption which maintains that the publicly funded health care system is not sustainable as health care expenditures are accounting for the increasing share of government spending. It notes that health care spending accounted for 7% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 1970 and 9.9% in 2004. It argues that increases in health care spending are sustainable as long as growth in non-health related spending can still occur.
