- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the chemical modification and dechlorination of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) by substituting thiocyanate (SCN) as a nucleophile. Effects of temperature, molar SCN/Cl (chlorine) ratio, and solvent on SCN substitution and hydrogen chloride (HCl) elimination are discussed. In the SCN/EG (ethylene glycol) solution, the substitution/dechlorination ratio increases with decreasing temperature favoring SCN substitution over HCl elimination.
