- Abstract
The article examines the dechlorination of polychlorinated biphenyl's (PCB), a well known environmental contaminants. The substance is known to be toxic, bioaccumulative and highly stable. The study aims to explore the photolytic characteristics of non-ortho substituted PCB's which show dioxin-like toxicity for elucidating their respective photodechlorination pathways and allows the development of PCBs practical photolytic methods. Methods used in the process includes the PCB congeners of Japan and the TetraCB of Cambridge. After careful investigation, results suggest that the photodechlorination pathways of TetraCb and related lower chlorinated congeners had been cleared due to its electronic and steric effect and the stabilities of the chlorination products.
