- Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates the physiological changes in carotenoid content, metabolic rate, lactic acid and glycogen contents of the tissues of the estuarine clam Villorita cyprinoides var. cochinensis (Hanley) exposed to sublethal amounts of copper (Cu) and mercury (Hg). The study uses saponification and light petroleum ether to extract carotenoids. Results show increase in tissue lactic acid content and decrease in glycogen levels.
