- Abstract
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is a public health problem worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics of patients with HIV-SIDA infection under follow-up at the outpatient clinic of the Homero Castanier Crespo Hospital. A retrospective sectional, analytical, observational, and quantitative study was done. All patients with HIV infection on control and follow-up at the outpatient clinic were included in the study. The total number of patients followed - up was 54. Predominant male (72.2%), heterosexual (75.9%), and higher frequency of cases in the age range of 18 to 35 years. Occupationally the group studied was diverse. In female patients (N: 16) housewives predominated (10/15) (66.6%). Most had been diagnosed in the last 5 years. Regarding the control viral load at one year of treatment, 48.1% had undetectable viral load (less than 40 copies / mL), viral load between 40 to 10,000 copies/mL 16.7%, more than 10,000 copies/mL 7.4% and 27.8% were under treatment less than 1 year. About 50% had a CD4 T lymphocyte count greater than 200 mm³. The antiretroviral combination in most patients (77.8%) was tenofovir / emtricitabine / efavirenz.
