- Abstract
The article comments a new functional form proposed by Kakwani and Podder for the estimation of the Lorenz curve. Lorenz curve relates the cumulative proportion of income units, x, to the cumulative proportion of income conceived, y, when the units are arranged in ascending order of their incomes. Kakwani and Podder have further shown that Gini coefficients and associated inequality measures can be easily computed using the estimated parameters of equation. The parameter restrictions cited by them as sufficient conditions for an appropriate estimate of the Lorenz curve turn out to be inadequate.
