- Abstract
Developing statistical skills and obtaining credit in statistics courses are common requirements that many college students have to contend with. However, not all students succeed in meeting these requirements -- often despite their best effort and that of their instructors. This paper describes an instruction and support program that a university learning center provides to students taking introductory statistics courses. The program is provided in collaboration with the statistics department where the subject is formally taught. The provisions of the program and the method by which these are delivered are described. Pass rate statistics, indicating that students who make use of the program perform better in their courses than those who do not, are reported. The findings of this study point to important student benefits that can be achieved when subject departments and centrally provided support facilities collaborate well in addressing student academic needs.
