- Abstract
Since the discovery of triphenylmethyl by Gomberg in 1900, its dimerization has been extensively studied. However, the actual structure of the dimer (the α,p‐adduct) was not elucidated until 1968 as it was believed to have the incorrectly assigned hexaphenylethane (the α,α‐adduct) structure. Hindered but stable α,α‐adducts have since become available by the “arylenediyl” approach. In their Communication on page 4010 ff., T. Suzuki et al. now report the first generation of the α,o‐adduct.
