- Abstract
The article discusses the role of children's librarian Alice M. Jordan in the development of the Boston Public Library (BPL) Training School in Boston, Massachusetts. The general development of higher education for librarians is documented by the author, with a specific focus on such education for children's librarians. Jordan's efforts with the Children's Librarians' Section of the American Library Association (ALA) are documented by the author. Her experiences as a teacher of library studies at Simmons College, a library school solely for women at the time, in Boston are outlined, as are her efforts in staffing the BPL's children's department.
