- Title
The Mismatch Between the CCP and the Dalai Lama (1921-1959).
- Authors
XIAOYUAN LIU
- Abstract
The article focuses on the complicated relationship between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Dalai Lama because of alleged contention over sovereignty of Tibet. Mao Zedong's efforts to consolidate Tibet with China, in the early 1950s, through negotiations and personal correspondence with the Tibetan leaders is suggested as futile. It describes Beijing's efforts toward democratic reforms. Suggestions are offered on how such relationship can be harmonized.
