- Abstract
The article explores the language variation of English and Japanese in terms of compositionality and resultatives. The set of permissible resultatives in Japanese is found to be contained in such set in English. A natural class of strong resultatives are typical in English language. The English language is also found to be similar with its French counterpart given their historical origins, but in terms of syntactic phenomena, Japanese language is similar with the French language.
