The stratum corneum is an important barrier layer and forms the habitat of the skin microflora. The stratum corneum which was composed of approximately thirty cell layers was permeated in its outer two-thirds by an intercellular mixture of sweat and sebum. Lipid and cornified cells formed a cone-shaped mass which scaled the hair follicle infundibulum.
